God's Gifts ARE ALL for today (not to be abused)

Gifts for today

updated 1/24/2013

(Rom 11:29)  For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

(1Co 1:4)  I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

(1Co 1:5)  That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

(1Co 1:6)  Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

(1Co 1:7)  So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

(1Co 1:8)  Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(James 1:17 KJV)  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

(Matthew 7:11 KJV)  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

(Luke 11:13 KJV)  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

(Hebrews 2:4 KJV)  God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

since the beginning

(Isaiah 64:4 KJV)  For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

(Matthew 24:21 KJV)  For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

gift, God -

(Joh 4:10)  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

(Act 8:20)  But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

(Act 11:17)  Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

(Rom 5:15)  But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

(Rom 6:23)  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(Rom 11:29)  For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

(1Co 7:7)  For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

(1Co 12:28)  And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

(2Co 9:15)  Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

(Eph 2:8)  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

(Eph 3:7)  Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

(2Ti 1:6)  Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

(Heb 2:4)  God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

(Heb 5:1)  For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

(Heb 11:4)  By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

(1Pe 4:10)  As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Dispensation - a doctrine or a schism?

See: -ation & other big doctrines

Dispensation

There are ONLY four (4) dispesations in the Scriptures.

They are ONLY mentioned & identified in the N.T.

"dispensationalISM" is not a word in the Scriptures.

"baptism" & "schism" are only two "isms" in the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

"-- rightly dividing the word of truth." pertains to:

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1 Corinthians 9:17 - (1st mention) -; Ephesians 1:10; 3:2; Colossians 1:25;

This is a NT (Greek) word. Is there anything in the OT that be defined in a similar manner? What about "dispe" (partial match)? This results in the word 'disperse(d)(sions)' 16 times. In the NT 3 times.

There are four dispensations in the Scriptures.

1 - 1Co_9:17 ... a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

-the gospel was preached to Abraham - Gal 3:8 (Not by Paul)

- everlasting gospel - Rev 14:6 (by an angel, not by Paul)

- 'preach the gospel' - phrase is in the NT 11 times.

2 - Eph_1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

This is the only verse with the phrase 'fulness of times'. Notice 'times ' is plural.

Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

(See also: Mark 1:15, Luke 21:24 & Dan 8:23, John 7:8, Gal 4:4) (See seperate study on'... time ...")

3 - (Eph 3:2) If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

2 Thes 2:16

(See Phrase study (A-M) on'... grace of God ...")

4 - (Col 1:25) Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;

1 Corinthians 15:8-9 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. (9) For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

Read Col 1:21-29. Note 'made a minister' in (KJV) Ephesians 3:7; Colossians 1:23, 25;

There is no dispensation'al' or dispensational'ism' in the Bible.

Act 17:22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

Act 17:23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. ----

(see Bible Study comparing to new Versions)

Acts 17:30-31 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: (31) Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

According to the doctrine of God as expressed in Isaiah 28:10,13 the first mention of "dispensation of the grace of God" is defined in the next line of scripture:

Eph 3:2-5 KJV If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: (3) How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, (4) Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) (5) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; ---

"rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). When one traces this biblical practice throughout church history he finds its most common name: dispensationalism - Dr. David Walker

This is his definition of dispensationalism.

(Heb 4:12) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

But is it God's definition of dispensation?
There is no 'dispensation' in the new bible versions. Except the NKJV shows two - in Eph 1:10 and 3:2.

This according to BibleGateway.com and searching the NAS, NIV, NKJV and Holman.

From G3623; administration (of a household or estate); specifically a (religious) "economy": - dispensation, stewardship.

G3623 οἰκονόμος oikonomos

oy-kon-om'-os
From G3624 and the base of G3551; a house distributor (that is, manager), or overseer, that is, an employee in that capacity; by extension a fiscal agent (treasurer); figuratively a preacher (of the Gospel): - chamberlain, governor, steward.

G3551 νόμος nomos

nom'-os
From a primary word νέμω nemō (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); law (through the idea of prescriptive usage), generally (regulation), specifically (of Moses [including the volume]; also of the Gospel), or figuratively (a principle): - law.

From Webster's Dictionary
DISPENSATION, n. [L. See Dispense.]

1. Distribution; the act of dealing out to different persons or places; as the dispensation of water indifferently to all parts of the earth.

2. The dealing of God to his creatures; the distribution of good and evil, natural or moral, in the divine government.

Neither are Gods methods or intentions different in his dispensations to each private man.

3. The granting of a license, or the license itself, to do what is forbidden by laws or canons, or to omit something which is commanded; that is, the dispensing with a law or canon, or the exemption of a particular person from the obligation to comply with its injunctions. The pope has power to dispense with the canons of the church, but has no right to grant dispensations to the injury of a third person.

A dispensation was obtained to enable Dr. Barrow to marry.

4. That which is dispensed or bestowed; a system of principles and rites enjoined; as the Mosaic dispensation; the gospel dispensation; including, the former the Levitical law and rites; the latter the scheme of redemption by Christ.

Isaiac Watts age-ism

Scofield (mid 1800s) started it. Bullinger likewise about the same time

Tried to define it by treating it - the Gospel/ Scriptures - as sliced sandwich meat from a deli, How thick or thin do you want?

It is 'one gospel' / 'one Word of God'

'One Word' 2 Samuel 14:12; 1 Kings 8:56; Acts 28:25; Galatians 5:14;

(Philippians 1:27) Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

(Galatians 3:8) And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

(2 Timothy 3:16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

(context??)

(Isaiah 28:10) For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

(Isaiah 28:13) But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Rightly dividing God's Word

This is not dispensations

Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth
(the following is from the Bill Gothard shown below)

In his letter to Timothy, Paul writes, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (II Timothy 2:15). The Greek word translated rightly dividing is orthotomeo, and is used only this one time in the Scriptures. It means "to cut straight," to make a true and accurate division.

This is a very interesting and significant verse, because Paul is saying that if we understand how to accurately divide the word of truth, we will be approved by God.

I have always assumed that to rightly divide Scripture means to correctly interpret it, and that is certainly an essential objective. However, this definition does not fully satisfy the meaning of the term rightly divide. From one of the roots of this Greek word (orthos, meaning "correct, straight") comes our English word orthodontics, which refers to a branch of dentistry that mainly deals with straightening the teeth of children.

Discovering Riches of the Word of Christ

I would like to share with you what I believe is an accurate application of the phrase rightly dividing. This has been one of the most important and thrilling discoveries of my life!

When I began memorizing large portions of Scripture as a young boy, I experienced a deep joy in the Lord. When I studied the Scriptures and their interpretations in college and graduate school, I was further enriched in the Word of God. Then, as I have taught the truths of God’s Word over the past 40 years, I have had a delight in seeing its power transform lives.

However, I have never experienced exhilarating excitement and delight in the Lord and in His Word to equal that which I have experienced in these last months by seeing all Scripture through the eyes of Christ’s commands.

As I used to read the words of David, "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God" (Psalm 42:1), I had to admit to myself that this was not actually true in my life, and I wondered whether it ever would be true. However, it is now a reality.

I feel like the disciples must have felt on the road to Emmaus when Jesus opened up the Scriptures. "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." Later they exclaimed, "Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?" (Luke 24:27, 32).

I am experiencing that same "burning of heart" as I take a command of Jesus and see its foundation in the Old Testament and its application in the New Testament.

The Divisions of God’s Word

There are three clear divisions within Scripture. First, there are the Law and the prophets. The Law, or Pentateuch, includes the first five books of Moses, Genesis through Deuteronomy. The prophets are composed of the rest of the Old Testament from Joshua to Malachi.

The second division of Scripture is the teachings of Jesus. They are found in the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The message of these books is the central revelation of God to man. The entire Law and the prophets are understood only in the light of Christ and His message. He is the living Word Who came from the Father to communicate light, truth, and love to mankind.

The third division of God’s Word is the teaching of the apostles, beginning with Luke’s account in Acts and ending with John’s message in Revelation. Notice the structure of these three divisions.

Law and the Prophets
Teachings of Jesus
Apostles’ Doctrine
Moses and the four Major Prophets:
Jesus and the four Gospels:
Paul and four primary writers:
Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
Luke, John, Peter, and James

Jesus emphasized the importance of concentrating on His commandments if we want to demonstrate our love to Him, experience His love, and have Him reveal Himself to us. "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him" (John 14:21).

When Jesus sent His disciples out with the Great Commission, He instructed them to make disciples by teaching all His commandments. (See Matthew 28:20.) This is exactly what Paul and the apostles did. They based their entire message on the commands of Christ.

Paul makes a powerful affirmation of this fact in I Corinthians 14:37. "If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord."

All 49 general commands of Christ are referred to or explained in the Book of Romans. Paul concludes this book by stating, "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ… according to the commandment of the everlasting God" (Romans 16:25–26).

We might wonder how Paul received the commands of Christ since Paul was not with Jesus during His earthly ministry. He got them directly from Christ in a special revelation, as he states, "But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ" (Galatians 1:11–12). Paul emphasized to Timothy that He based sound doctrine on two things: Christ’s own words and that which leads to Christlike living. (See I Timothy 6:3.)

Delight in Knowing the Mind of Christ

Paul explained to the Corinthian believers that the wisdom of God is not comprehended by human intellect but by the discernment of the Holy Spirit through the mind of Christ. (See I Corinthians 2:6–16.)

Since the Old Testament is the foundation of Christ’s commandments, and the epistles are the application of them, we can know the mind of Christ by viewing the Old and New Testaments through His commands. With this perspective we can understand the true meaning of the Law and the prophets and the application of Christ’s teachings in the epistles.

How the Commands of Christ Reveal God’s Truth

Let’s take one command of Christ and see how its foundation is laid in the Old Testament and its application is explained in the New Testament.

Discovering the Wisdom of Christ

Paul exhorts us to "let the word of Christ dwell in… [us] richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in… [our] hearts to the Lord" (Colossians 3:16). Notice how this verse includes all three divisions of Scripture. It begins with the word of Christ, then goes to the Old Testament psalms, then to the New Testament with its dynamic of grace.

My note: grace is in 137 O.T. verses and 122 N.T. verses.

In the O.T.: 'find grace' in 9vs /'found grace' in 18 vs.

Why would one say that the N.T. has 'its dynamic of grace;?

Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

'Gift" and "grace' are together only in 6 N.T. verses:.

(KJV) Rom. 5:15,17; Eph. 2:8; 3:7; 4:7; 1Pe. 4:10;

Read each verse with understanding.

Some make two divisions in Scripture—Law and grace. They claim that Law is the Scripture before Christ died and grace is the Scripture afterward. This would place most of Christ’s teaching under the Law. God demonstrated the fallacy of this reasoning on the Mount of Transfiguration. Moses, Elijah, and Jesus spoke together and Peter suggested making three tabernacles—one for Moses, representing the Law; one for Elijah, representing the prophets; and one for Jesus. God removed Moses and Elijah, leaving only Jesus, and declared, "This is my beloved Son: hear him." (See Luke 9:28–36.)

Daily Success

Ever since I discovered the rich treasures in the commands of Christ, I have been looking for opportunities to share them with others. For this purpose, Daily Success has been developed.

Daily Success is a 49-week program of e-mail encouragements focusing on the 49 general commands of Christ. The program is designed to help men catch a vision for becoming the spiritual leaders that God intends them to be in their families, churches, and communities. Members of the Daily Success program also have access to additional online resources to facilitate a deeper study of each command.

dispensation = division?

But now in this new age of grace all the world’s people (including Israeli’s) are saved only by the "BELIEF in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ that takes away the sins of the world". You can’t add or take anything away from this, that is the gospel of grace, period! The sacrifice that Christ made is sufficient and complete.

My notes:

Searching for the word "dispensation" results in 4 verses:

1Co. 9:17; Eph. 1:10; 3:2; Col. 1:25;

Checking Strongs Concordance for the usage of the Greek word for "dispensation" results in several other verses where the Greek word "G3622 οἰκονομία oikonomia" is used:

Luk 16:1-4 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. (2) And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. (3) Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. (4) I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

Luk 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Tit 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

Should one use 'dispensation' or even 'dispenser' in each of the above places where it reads 'steward--'?

OR

Is it wrong or correct to change the meaning of the word "dispensation' to 'division'?

Is this not a misinterpretation of Scripture/ Or is it just repeating someone elses commentary or private interpretation?

(2 Peter 1:20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

Can one match 'dispensation' to the following Scripture verse correctly?

(2Ti 2:15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Scripture gives only 3 N.T. verses with the use of the word "dividing":

1Co 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

twoedged sword: Psa. 149:6; Pro. 5:4; Heb. 4:12; Rev. 1:16;

power of God: Mat. 22:29; Mark 12:24; Luke 9:43; 22:69; Acts 8:10; Rom. 1:16; 1Co. 1:18,24; 2:5; 2Co. 6:7; 13:4; 2Ti. 1:8; 1Pe. 1:5;

Scripture says that 2Tim 2:15 is explained in detail in Heb 4:12.

Scripture also explains 'division' in Luke 12:51-53-

Psalms 50:22-23 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. 23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

Proverbs 10:19-22 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. 20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. 21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. 22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

2 Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

Does this apply to "new Versions" only? or to those that correct the "errors" in the King James Bible? or to those that are ignorant of the grammer of the English language?
2 Corinthians 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Psalms 37:14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

2 Corinthians 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

Galatians 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Ephesians 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

James 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

1 Peter 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

1 Peter 3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

1 Peter 3:16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

2 Peter 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

2 Peter 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Are the words "as" and "of" importannt to be used correctly in the above verses?

Is it important that the words "as" and "of" be used and defined correctly and orderly?

Does the word "of" mean the same as is identical to the word "is"?

Does "The blessing of the LORD" mean or is same as "The blessing is the LORD"? Proverbs 10:22

Does "the grace of God" mean or is same as "the grace is God"? 2 Corinthians 1:12

Does "the gospel of Christ" mean or is same as "the gospel is Christ"? Philippians 1:27

Does "the word of God" mean or is same as "the word is God" Hebrews 13:7

Does "evil of you" mean or is same as "evil is you"? 1 Peter 3:16

Does "the angel of the Lord" mean or is same as "the angel is the Lord"? See complete study on who is "the angel of the Lord"

Angel or angel of the Lord

Who is the

"angel of the Lord"

A detailed study from the Scriptures - The Holy Bible - AKJB

by J. Clements

Rev 2/2014

Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Rev. 1:8,11; 21:6; 22:13; --- I am Alpha and Omega ---

(Note: There was no difference made between "Lord" and "LORD" in "angel of the Lord", as the study is on whether "angel" ever equals "Jesus, the Lord God".)
Angels

(Ministering spirits plus)

It is important to understand the true scriptural doctrine that Jesus is not "an (or the) angel" nor the "angel of the Lord (or God)".

Is the "angel of the Lord" the same pre-incarnate Jesus in the OT as in the NT?

Is the "angel of God" the same as "the angel of the Lord?

In the OT as in the NT?

"- what saith the scripture -" (Rom 4:3, 11:2, Gal 4:30)

Angel of the Lord OR Angel is the Lord?

Angel of God OR Angel is God?

Just because a person in the OT calls God "the Angel" does it make God an Angel?

(Read all of Hebrews 1:1-14)
Hebrews 1:1-14 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

God --- spake - (That is another study on how God spake)

-by the prophets -

and through the angels. We see throughout scripture that angels bring messages from "the LORD" and from "God".

To go to the Hebrew word for "angel" and find every where that Hebrew word is used, one will find that it is never used for a "prophet". (See below (a))

Even though angels, prophets and even men messengers bring messages they are not all angels. Strong's Concordance is in error or it is a private interpretation when it says the Hebrew word could be a prophet.

The same thing applies in Greek.

-unto the fathers -

This is NOT the "church Fathers" as sited by the various denominational churches of today. One is not a "father" until he begets a child. See "my son" in the Proverbs)

(2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Jesus is "heir of all things".

Angels are ministers "for them who shall be heirs of salvation".

Heb 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Notice that children have angels: (Mat 18:10)

Jesus took on the seed of David

Angels announced his birth.

Angels ministered to Jesus
Mark 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

He is even"the captain of their salvation" as it says in:

Heb 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

(3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

(4) Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Jesus was made man -
Rom 1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

Heb 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

which was a little lower than the angels. -

Psalm 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Heb 2:7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

(5) For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

(6) And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

(7) And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

(See below Gen 22:10 & 13, Judges 6:21, Judges 13:16, 19, 20.)

(8) But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. (9) Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

(10) And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: (See also John 1:1-3)

(11) They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; (12) And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

(13) But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

(14) Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

- if children, then heirs- Romans 8:14-17

Matthew 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

Psalms 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

The devil, an angel, used this to tempt the LORD Jesus as a man.

But read all of Psalm 91. God shows us in his Word that those that trust in him, he will protect.

- Their jobs, assignments, ministering -

Mat 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

Matthew 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

Matthew 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,

Matthew 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

God's / Jesus' angels

Mark 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Luke 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

Luke 12:9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

-"a little lower than the angels" Why?

Hebrews 2:1-18 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. (2) For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

This "word spoken by angels" was the stedfast word of God.

Was Stephen an angel? Of course not. See Acts 6: 8 & 15.

(3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

(4) God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

(5) For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

(6) But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

(7) Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: (8) Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

(9) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

(10) For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

No angel, only Jesus, can be in charge in any manner of salvation. Angels can be in charge of other angels.

(11) For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, (12) Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. (13) And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. (14) Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (15) And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (16) For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. (17) Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. (18) For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Hebrews 2:7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

This is from Psalm 8:5

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

(In the Geneva version "God" rather than angel is used.)

Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Where are the angels? Where do they operate / minister?

Mark 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

Mark 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Luke 2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

Wicked, evil-

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

The devil tries to quote Scripture -

Luke 4:9-11 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: (10) For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee (): (11) And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time (added) thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Psa 91:11-12 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. (ommited) (12) They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

-Matthew 1:20 is first mention in Greek of 'angel' (of the LORD). Again it is the same Greek word used for 'messenger' also.

'worship()' and 'angel()' are found together in 7 verses:
Daniel 3:28; Colossians 2:18; Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 7:11; 11:1; 14:9; 22:8;

captain of the host (17vs)

Joshua 5:14; 1 Samuel 12:9; 17:55; 2 Samuel 10:16; 17:25; 19:13; 24:2; 1 Kings 1:19; 2:32; 11:15,21; 16:16; 2 Kings 4:13; 5:1; 1 Chronicles 19:16,18; 27:5;

-Joshua 5:13-15
Jos 5:13-15 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? (14) And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? (15) And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

A "captain" is a leader of a "host" or group or soldiers. "host" does not always refer to angels. But most generally refers to soldiers or servants.

1Sam 12:9 And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

1Sam 17:55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.

2Sam 10:16 And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

2Sam 17:25 And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man's son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother.

2Sam 19:13 And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

2Sam 24:2 For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.

1Kings 1:19 And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.

1Kings 2:32 And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit, Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

1Kings 11:15 For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the host was gone up to bury the slain, after he had smitten every male in Edom;

1Kings 11:21 And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to mine own country.

1Kings 16:16 And the people that were encamped heard say, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slain the king: wherefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the host, king over Israel that day in the camp.

2Kings 4:13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.

This is Elisha and the Shunammite woman.

2Kings 5:1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

1Chron 19:16 And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

1Chron 19:18 But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

1Chron 27:5 The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
That completes the scriptures showing that "captain of the host" is never shown to be a "pre-incanate Jesus".

-Daniel in the firey furnace -
Daniel 3:23-28

(23) And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

(24) Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

(25) He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Not an angel nor angel of the Lord-

the forth appeared "the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

This is a comparison (is like) and shows that angels appear in the form of the man, Jesus.

(26) Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

He did not invite the fourth individual to come out.-

(27) And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

(28) Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

Nebuchadnezzar blesses God for sending "his angel", not his Son.

Dan 7:13-16

(13) I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days,

-Abraham and Lot before Sodom -

Gen 17 & 18
These chapters say 'the Lord' or 'God said' only. There is no mention of angels. There is the mention of 'three men' (Gen 18:2).

Gen 18:1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he -(Abraham as from the next verse) sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

Gen 18:2 And he (Abraham) lift up his (Abraham) eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him(Abraham) : and when he(Abraham) saw them, he(Abraham) ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

Angels appear as men and as strangers. (Hebrews 13:2).

Gen 18:3 And said, My Lord,
Gen 18:16-22 KJV And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.

(17) And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; (18) Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? (19) For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

(20) And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; (21) I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

"I will go down now, and see ---". This is the same that the Lord did in Genesis 11:5, 7.

(22) And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

and two angels as men - from Gen 18:16 stood, looked and went to Sodom.

The LORD stayed behind and spoke with Abraham. This is the only place where it specifically says that a person (Abraham) is face to face with the LORD (Jesus). Not even Moses saw the face of God.
And it is noted in James 2:23 " And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God." (See also Genesis 22:10-18)

and Genesis 19:1 And there came two angels to Sodom.

These "three men" that came to Abraham are two angels and the LORD.

There is no"angel of the Lord" in these verses.

-Hagar and Ishmael -
Gen 21:17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

This is a messenger from God, calling out of heaven.

- Abraham offering Isaac

Genesis 22:10-18 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. (11) And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. (12) And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. (13) And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

*(see Genesis 22:7-13 at the end)

(14) And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. (15) And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, (16) And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: (17) That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; (18) And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

The angel of the LORD is giving the message from the LORD. It is an angel.

-Jacob and ladder

Genesis 28:10-17 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. (11) And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. (12) And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

This does not mean that there are many Gods because it says "angels" of God.

(13) And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; (14) And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. (15) And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. (16) And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. (17) And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

There is no"angel of the Lord" in this information.

-Jacob serving Laban - Genesis 31

(Genesis 31:3) And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

Genesis 31:10-13 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled. (11) And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I. (12) And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee. (13) I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: (Gen 28: 18-22 after the ladder dream) now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.

We know that angels are not God, therefore this "angel of God" is speaking for God, giving Jacob direction.

-Jacob wrestling the angel - Gen 32

Genesis 32:24-30 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. (25) And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. (26) And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. (27) And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. (28) And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. (29) And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. (30) And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

This is only identified as a "man". As "the angel did wondrously" in (Judges 13:19), so could it be here.

Jacob had the same reaction as Gideon and Minoah.

Again, there is no"angel of the Lord" in these verses.

(See 'Angel', with capital 'A', 4 times in Gen. 48:16; Exo. 23:20,23; 32:34)

- Jacob -now Israel - blesses Joseph's children

Genesis 48:14-16 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn. (15) And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, (16) The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

Here (v16) Jacob is calling God (from the previous verse 15) "The Angel". The translators knew this and captilized the 'A'. But calling God an Angel does not make God, nor Jesus the Son of God, an angel. As for the "which redeemed" that would refer back to Gen 31:10-13, "now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred." See also Genesis 31:3.

Again, this shows that angels are ministers to those who are "heirs of salvation' (one time in NT only), "the redeemed of the Lord" (three times in OT only).

Would this not be like Mary's statement to Jesus:
(Luke 2:48) And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

Mary was calling Joseph Jesus' father. This did not make Joseph his father.
Jesus corrects her in the next verse:
(Luke 2:49) And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

- Moses and the flame and the bush

Exodus 3:1-4 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. (2) And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. (3) And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. (4) And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

The angel appeared, the LORD saw, and God called. It was the LORD's angel, not the LORD.

This is also told in Acts 7:30-.

Psalm 104:4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:

- Balaam

Numbers 22:21-35 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab. (22) And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. (23) And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way. (24) But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. (25) And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again. (26) And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. (27) And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. (28) And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times? (29) And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee. (30) And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay. (31) Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face. (32) And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me: (33) And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive. (34) And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again. (35) And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

Numbers 22:38 KJV And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.

Again this is an angel. Not just an angel, but a particular, unnamed, angel sent by the LORD himself.

-Joshua and 'the captain of the host of the LORD'

Joshua 5:13-15

(13) And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

(14) And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

It does not say that Joshua worshipped the angel, know as "captain of the host of the LORD" .

(15) And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

This is not the "pre-incarnate Jesus". It is one that is over the Lord's host. He appears much like the men that stood by Abraham.

This may be the same angel that appeared to Moses (Exodus 3:5)in the burning bush. Both, Moses and Joshua, are told to remove their shoes for the place is holy ground.

He is only a "captain" and Jesus was not demoted to just a captain in the ranks of angels.

1Sam 17:55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.

Here God repeats the name of "the captain of the host" twice, so to emphasis who it is. -and without a name given.

Deuteronomy 4:19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Joshua and the children of Israel -

Judg 2:1-8 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you. (2) And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? (3) Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. (4) And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. (5) And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD. (6) And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land. (7) And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel. (8) And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

The "angel of the LORD" is an angel and the "LORD" is the LORD - two different individuals.

- Deborah's song
Judg 5:23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.

- Gideon

Judg 6:6-23 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. (7) And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, (8) That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; (9) And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land; (10) And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice. (11) And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. (12) And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. (13) And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. (14) And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? (15) And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house. (16) And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. (17) And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me. (18) Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again. (19) And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it. (20) And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so. (21) Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight. (22) And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face. (23) And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.

The "angel of the LORD" is an angel as is "angel of God" and the "LORD" is the LORD - at least two different individuals.

Manoah, Samson's father:

-Judg 13:1-25

(1) And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

(2) And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.

(3) And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

(4) Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

(5) For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

(6) Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
(See Deu 4:19 above)

(7) But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

(8) Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

(9) And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

(10) And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.

(11) And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.

(12) And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

(13) And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

(14) She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

(15) And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.

(16) And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.

(17) And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?

(18) And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

(19) So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

(20) For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

(21) But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.

(22) And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

(23) But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
(24) And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

(25) And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

David counting Israel -
2Sam 24:11-17 For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, (12) Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. (13) So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me. (14) And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man. (15) So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men. (16) And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite. (17) And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

The "angel of the LORD" is an angel and the "LORD" is the LORD - at least two different individuals.

(My note - see the book by Jonathan Edwards - "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" -based on Deu 32:35 To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
(the prophet Gad, David's seer, 2Sam 24:11)

- Elijah escaping from Jezebel -
1Kings 19:4-7 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. (5) And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. (6) And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. (7) And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

Again, only an angel.

2Kings 1:3-4 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? (4) Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.

Elijah - let fire come down from heaven -

2Kings 1:9-14

This is the very discription of angels in Hebrews 1:7. The "angel of the LORD" brought the message to Elijah and ministered the flame of fire from heaven.

Elijah on the mountain -
2Kings 1:15 And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.

2Kings 19:31-35 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. (32) Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it. (33) By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. (34) For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. (35) And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

Repeated in Isaiah 37:36.

1 Chronicles 21:12 - is a repeat of 2Samuel 24:11-17.

Psalm 34:6-8 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. (7) The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. (8) O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalm 35:4-6 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. (5) Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them. (6) Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.

-----

Zechariah 1:1-20 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, (2) The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers. (3) Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. (4) Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD. (5) Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? (6) But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us. (7) Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, (8) I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white. (9) Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be. (10) And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. (11) And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

In the next verse some would say that the "preincarnate" Jesus was talking and answering himself if he was the "angel of the LORD".

(12) Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years? (13) And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words. (14) So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. (15) And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction. (16) Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem. (17) Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem. (18) Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. (19) And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. (20) And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.

The "LORD of hosts" is "the LORD", not an angel nor angel of the LORD.

Zechariah 3:1-10 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan (also an angel) standing at his right hand to resist him. And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by. And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by. Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.

Scripture shows that the "angel of the LORD" is an angel chosen by the LORD to bring specific messages - quoted exactly from the LORD Jesus. Jesus is also Lord over the whole of creation. And angels are created beings.

Zechariah 12:7-9 The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. (8) In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them. (9) And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Notice the comparitive word "as" used in the above verses. Notice also that there are three comparisons. Could that be a picture of the Trinity / Godhead? Look at 2 Chronicles 20:15 "-- the battle is not yours, but God's." And 2 Kings 6:16, 17 " 2Ki 6:16-17 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. (17) And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha."

Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Matthew 1:20-24 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (21) And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (22) Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, (23) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (24) Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

No doubt that this is an angel.

Matthew 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

Matthew 2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Again an angel.

-*Matthew 28:1-6 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. (2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. (3) His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: (4) And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. (5) And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. (6) He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Does this look like Jesus? In the (context) it is not possible for it to be Jesus.

The following would have taken place before Matthew 1:20 above.

- Announcement of John to Zacharias.

Luke 1:8-13 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course, (9) According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. (10) And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. (11) And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. (12) And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. (13) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

Luke 2:8-11 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. (9) And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. (10) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. (11) For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

- Peter released from prison.

Acts 12:5-10 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. (6) And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. (7) And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. (8) And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. (9) And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. (10) When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

That brings up another word study on equal and Partial match. But to put down a few verses that seem to apply to this in depth study.

Luke 20:34-38 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: (35) But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: (36) Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. (37) Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. (38) For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

Philippians 2:6-11 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (7) But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (8) And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (9) Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (10) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (11) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

As angels are spirits see study in "types of spirits" as mentioned in Scripture.

Romans 4:3a For what saith the scripture? ---

Where does it say in any kind of words "the angel of the Lord" is "a pre-incarnate Jesus"?
What does "pre-incarnate" mean?

-Conclusion from the one true Word of God:
"the angel of the Lord" and "the angel of God" are "angels" and not "a pre-incarnate Jesus".

It is indicated by the scriptures that there was a created angel assigned to the LORD as his messenger. This was since the creation when God told mankind that his Son was to become man, the heir of all and the captain of salvation. (Hebrews 2:10).

Many times the angels called out of heaven. First, to get man's attention. And second to give (or hearld ) God's message. They did not always say "thus saith the LORD" or "the word of the LORD came to me" as did the prophets. The angels, as ministers of flame, did wonderously. Even differently than the prophets.

When the disciples wanted to call fire down from heaven, Jesus knew that the angels would minister the flame of fire. (Luke 9:51-53)

And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? (Luke 9:54 )

For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. (Luke 9:56)

He says later "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? (Matthew 26:53 )

But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? (Matthew 26:54 )

In answer to the second question, "And why teach correct scriptural doctrine from the KJB?" And, there is doctrinal error in all the modern English versions which causes confusion and disunity.

1Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

2Corinthians 6:14-16 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (15) And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? (16) And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Isa 14:12 (KJB) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

(ESV) "How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low!
(HCSB) Shining morning star, how you have fallen from the heavens! You destroyer of nations, you have been cut down to the ground.

(My note: see Translations)

Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Rev 2:28 And I will give him the morning star.

Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

1Ti 5:21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Who are these "elect angels"?

Consider "mine (A)angel" in Exo. 23:23; 32:34; Rev. 22:16.

And also the angel in Rev 19:9,10 that saith "--I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus --"

and in Rev 22:8,9 "--I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book --"

As angels are created spirits cannot God, actually Jesus, have special purpose / elect angels?

1Peter 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

Specific incidences:

When it appears or presumed that the angel was worshipped - (contrary to Rev 22: 8-9.)

-Revelation 22:8-9

(8) And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.

(9) Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

God tells us that we are not to worship "the host of heaven".

Here God has John identify this as an angel. However, he, "the angel" identifies himself as:

1- thy fellow servant

2- of thy brethren

3- the prophets

4- of them which keep the sayings of this book

1- fellow(-)servant(s) 2Sa. 6:20; 2Ki. 9:11; Zec. 3:8; Mat. 18:28,29,31,33; 24:49; Col. 1:7; 4:7; Rev. 6:11; 19:10; 22:9;

Indicates one that is of the same nature under the same master. Would this refer to:

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. (Mat 22:30)

For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. (Mar 12:25)

Matthew 16:13-17 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? (14) And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

Today some learned, scholarily men of high degree (Psalm 62:9) would say, "thou art an angel of the LORD".

(15) He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? (16) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

And why teach correct scriptural doctrine from the KJB?

First, Some teach that Jesus is just an angel. (Jehovah Witnesses & Mormons)

Some teach that Jesus is Satan's brother. (Jehovah Witnesses & Mormons)

Others would have one consider that Jesus is Michael (http://www.wake-up.com/Alpha/Chapter2.htm)
Then there are the teachings of the Mormons and the Muslims (Muhammads).

Psalm 68:17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.
Does this make angels chariots or chariots angels? NO!

Doctrinal error in all the modern English versions

There is doctrinal error in all the modern English versions which causes confusion and disunity and confounds the christian believer.

What is your final authority?

Is it in one's teachers? college professors? theologians and 'church fathers'? a pastor or sunday school teacher? popular beliefs? modern critical text bible versions? lexicons, concordances and dictionaries.

Should it not be the very Word of God? The Holy Scriptures as given to us in our language - English - in the Authorized King James Bible.

This will be covered in another study.

See also Luke 20:34-36.

Theophany is a theologians term for the demotion of Jesus from the "only begotten Son of God" to an angel equal to Satan (hense some peoples belief that Jesus and Satan are brothers) contrary to the scripture in Hebrews.

1630s, from Late Latin theophania, from Greek theophaneia, from theos "god" (see Thea) + phainein "to show" (see phantasm). http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?allowed_in_frame=0&search=Theophany&searchmode=none

and Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day ---

2- are angels "thy brethren"? Anywhere else in Scripture to confirm this?

3- are angels "prophets"? Anywhere else in Scripture to confirm this?

4- Do angels "keep the sayings of this book"? Anywhere else in Scripture to confirm this?

----------------------------------------------------
Luke 20 - Jesus taught, and he preached

He spoke parables and he quoted OT scripture.

message- What message did Jesus bring?

In the Gosples and Acts Jesus did not have a "message". -??????

--------------------------------------------------------------------
However, in:

1John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

Therefore, one needs to consider:

2Peter 3:16-18 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. (17) Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. (18) But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

One can not truthfully say -

This is wrest scripture -

Is the following clear reasoning?

The angel of the LORD is a "pre-incarnate" Jesus.-

Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, (2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son---

-----------------------------------------------------
'his Son" is Jesus and he brought the gospel message.-

Therefore Jesus is a messenger-

Angels are messengers-

"the angel of the LORD" is a messenger-

Therefore; "the angel of the LORD" is Jesus before he was born as a babe.

Note 1/21/2014

Read Exo 4-10-
See how God spoke directly to Moses. He told Moses to tell Pharoah certain things. Exo 4:10-16 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. (11) And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? (12) Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. (13) And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send. (14) And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. (15) And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. (16) And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

This is an example /a witness how God and the Lord use / authorize angels to speak for them as "the angel of God or "the angel of the Lord".

(added 2/5/2014)

Question: Who or what is the "cloud of the LORD"?

(Exodus 40:38) For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

(Numbers 10:34) And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, when they went out of the camp.

If "clouds" are always "angels", then is it really the "angel of the LORD" and thus the Lord?

Now on to some activity in the animal world.

Gen 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

Oh, and then it looks like in the latter days must have not liked what Adam called them. Or was it just a Dr. WHO change?
Isaiah 34:1-17 NKJV (A Dr. WHO book)

1 Come near, you nations, to hear; And heed, you people! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, The world and all things that come forth from it. 2 For the indignation of the LORD is against all nations, And His fury against all their armies; He has utterly destroyed them, He has given them over to the slaughter. 3 Also their slain shall be thrown out; Their stench shall rise from their corpses, And the mountains shall be melted with their blood. 4 All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; All their host shall fall down As the leaf falls from the vine, And as fruit falling from a fig tree. 5 “ For My sword shall be bathed in heaven; Indeed it shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My curse, for judgment. 6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, It is made overflowing with fatness, With the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of Edom. 7 The wild oxen shall come down with them, And the young bulls with the mighty bulls; Their land shall be soaked with blood, And their dust saturated with fatness.” 8 For it is the day of the LORD’s vengeance, The year of recompense for the cause of Zion. 9 Its streams shall be turned into pitch, And its dust into brimstone; Its land ()shall become burning pitch. 10 It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass through it forever and ever. 11 But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it, Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. And He shall stretch out over it The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness. 12 They shall call its nobles () to the kingdom, But none shall be there, and all its princes shall be nothing. 13 And thorns shall come up in its palaces, Nettles and brambles in its fortresses; It shall be a habitation of jackals, A courtyard for ostriches. 14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with () the jackals, And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion; Also the night creature shall rest there, And find for herself a place of rest. 15 There the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs And hatch, and gather them under her shadow; There also shall the hawks be gathered, Every one with her mate. 16 “ Search from the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them. 17 He has cast the lot for them, And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line. They shall possess it forever; From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”
- Is the above confusing? Was it willfully so? Is it a small or large lie?

The following is what the True Word of God says:
Isaiah 34:1-17 KJV
Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.
(2) For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.
(3) Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.
(4) And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.
(5) For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.
(6) The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.
(7) And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.
(8) For it is the day of the LORD'S vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.
(9) And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.
(10) It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
(11) But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.
(12) They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
(13) And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.
(14) The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
(15) There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.
(16) Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
(17) And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
